DVD Review: Spider-Man 2: Special Edition
Dec 3, 2004 - Lynn Barker
This film was the feel-good action/romance of the summer. Now it's out on a two disc DVD that is really loaded with extras.
It's two years after "Spidey One" and, in Spider-Man 2 , Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is working his tight buns off as a starving student, pizza delivery guy and crime fighter. He still has the hots for Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) who is also in New York acting in a play and modeling. With his college grades slipping, Peter decides to write a paper on Doctor Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) who is working on a fusion reaction for energy theory. When the lab test goes wrong, Otto becomes Doc Ock, a powerful villain with tentacle-like arms.
Peter has his hands full containing the Doc who teams up with Harry Osbourne (James Franco). Meanwhile, Mary Jane, realizing that Peter will never get it together enough for a relationship with her, gets engaged to a hot astronaut. With his love life on the skids and a city to save, can Spider-Man survive?
The Look: This DVD looks great! Very colorful, intense and true to the big-screen version. Transfer is very crisp with super detail.
Audio: Also fabulous. Dialogue is very clear even with all the loud, crashing effects. Great balance. Surround sound puts you in the middle of the action clearly. Music is never too soft or loud.. again... perfect.
