Tim McGraw: Playing New Notes
Oct 7, 2004 - Lynn Barker
Tim McGraw is one of the giants in Country Music with 23 number one singles, seven multi-platinum albums etc. His latest single "Live Like You Were Dying" climbed the charts with lightning speed to number one. Tim's flirty, sexy delivery on stage has women passing out at his concerts. And, although the artist appreciates the attention, he goes home to gorgeous singer/actress Faith Hill and their daughters. Now, with his role as a down and out dad in the sports drama Friday Night Lights, Tim has evidently caught the acting bug from his wife.
We chatted with the down-to-earth superstar recently in L.A.'s Century City. We were expecting the cowboy hat, sexy unbuttoned shirt and tight jeans we usually see him wear but got the "citified" McGraw instead; glasses, cute tam-style hat and plum-colored shirt. Tim chatted about his own athletic achievements, family, his career success and mostly, his experience as a first-time actor. Check it out...
TeenHollywood: This is your first film role and you are really good. Did you have to work hard with director Peter Berg?
Tim: Thanks, Well, I knew when I first hung out with Pete and sat down and talked to him, I liked him instantly, he's just a likable guy. I knew that we would get along. I told him, 'Give me all the direction you want to'. My only judgment for how well I'm doing is what he says I'm doing, because I don't know. He was really good about talking to me about how he wanted this character to be. He gave me a lot of direction in one way but he gave me a lot of freedom too.
