Frankie Muniz: At the Crossroads
Mar 10, 2004 - Lynn Barker
To us, he's endearing "Malcolm in the Middle" or cute teen secret agent Cody Banks but 18-year-old Frankie Muniz is really a conflicted teen on the cusp of being an adult and, for a child actor, that means big career changes. Frankie again plays Cody as the teen spy hits London in Cody Banks 2: Destination London, but the actor is also looking forward to his career as an adult. When we chatted with him in L.A., Frankie made it no secret that he's concerned about making the transition.
Wearing a whimsical dark red t-shirt that read "I Rode the Bulls at Cowboys", Frankie told us all about his fun in London and the challenges of making his new film as well as his future plans, including a new MTV show that he's co-creating and producing. Check out this very personal look at a popular young actor.
TeenHollywood: Okay, we heard a rumor that, while in London, somebody on your cast or crew mooned people from that big Ferris Wheel.. the Eye?
Frankie: [laughing] Yeah. I would have to say that was my favorite location, the London Eye – we were the first movie to ever film there, which was kind of nice, and we actually got kicked out at the end of the day! I'll get to that in a second. The only problem with the London Eye was that they only could fit four people into the pod at one time, because they had to hide everyone behind the camera, and we couldn't get off. And it takes about 45 minutes to go around each time, so after the eighth or ninth time going around it had been about 10 hours of us just sitting in this pod, I really had to go to the bathroom and I was like, 'I'm going to get out and I've got 10 seconds to get back in before you guys go around again.' That didn't work, so I couldn't get off.
