Actress Alicia Silverstone is 24 years old, but she's also an awkward 13-year-old with braces. Silverstone provides the voice for Sharon Spitz, the animated character in "Braceface," a new series on Fox Family (Saturdays at 9a.m.). Spitz's tin grin creates mysterious happenings that add to the troubles of life in eighth grade. Silverstone was a model before making it big with the movies "Clueless" and "Batman & Robin" (as Batgirl).

Q: What is it you like about "Braceface"?

A: I loved the idea of a girl with these huge braces on her face, because that's kind of like puberty. Everything feels like braces on your face at that age. You think something is wrong every day. I certainly felt that way.

Q: What do you think is good about being that age?

A: It's an age for really wonderful relationships, and if you do connect, they could be lifetime relationships.

Q: Did you ever wear braces?

A: No. I wanted them, because everybody had them.

Q: What concerned you when you were that age?

A: I was in Hebrew school and I did my Bat Mitzvah and I was really at that time challenging everything I was learning. I loved my school, but we would learn about wars and why wars started and what they were fighting about. It was just ridiculous; it was always about religion.
