Movie Review: Scary Movie 3
Oct 24, 2003 - Lynn Barker
The gang is back for yet another in the fright-film spoofer movie series. This time, for Scary Movie 3, the Wayans bros are out and old spoof pro David Zucker (Airplane, "Police Squad", Naked Gun) is in. Among the films spoofed are Signs,, The Ring, The Matrix and 8 Mile.. (I know, not a horror film but it works out in the zany combined plot..trust me).
Seems Cindy Campbell [Anna Faris] who has been a teen victim in the first two films, is now out of college and is a grown-up investigative reporter and anchorwoman. Cindy is summoned to investigate the mysterious crop circles on Tom Logan's [Charlie Sheen] farm and then is off to find out what's behind the death of Brenda [Regina Hall], a close friend. She falls for Tom's brother George [Simon Rex] a White wanna-be rapper who is trying to make it in the hood. Trying to tie all this together, Cindy learns of a certain "killer" video tape and pays a visit to Orpheus [Eddie Griffin] and the Oracle Shaniqua [Queen Latifah], who get the Architect [George Carlin] to explain to her that she is "The One", and must help the President of the United States [Leslie Nielsen] in preventing a full scale alien invasion!
Okay, it's wacky! There are scenes and comic lines in this film that are roll-on-the-sticky-theater-floor-hilarious. Like the two "Scary" films before it, there are also moments that are cute but not as funny. However, it's worth seeing this one for the opening scene in which sexy Pamela Anderson and Jenny McCarthy play Catholic schoolgirls in an hilarious send-up of the opening scene of The Ring.
