Reese Witherspoon: Legally Blonde... Again
Jun 26, 2003 - Lynn Barker
She's on top of the world, with cute husband Ryan, daughter Ava and another baby on the way, Reese Witherspoon is in London shooting Vanity Fair, in which she plays poor but ambitious heroine Becky Sharp. Back home, we get to catch the second installment of the adventures of fashion-conscious, good-hearted sorority girl/lawyer turned political activist Elle Woods in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde which Reese is executive producing through her "Type A" films. Reese believes Elle can be an inspiration to young girls and took time out on her London set to talk to the press about her pregnancy, working in England, dealing with tabloid gossip and being "blonde" once again.
TeenHollywood: What is different this time around? What made you want to do a sequel?
Reese: I was a little nervous because the first one did so well. I just thought I don't want to re-tread the same storyline. But you have to cover some of the same bases because people want to see her triumph out of a difficult situation. I was very interested in making a film in the vein of Mr. Smith Goes To Washington and having it be a woman. Because I imagine myself as a young girl seeing a woman with the potential of political power and I just thought that would be really inspiring.
TeenHollywood: Executive producing this time must have put you in control of many aspects of the movie.
