Leonardo DiCaprio: Ganster and Con Artist
Dec 24, 2002 - Lynn Barker
For a while, we thought hottie Leo DiCaprio sank with the Titanic. The Beach was a little strange and it came and went. Where has Leo been? Now we know! It's a DiCaprio Christmas this year. The handsome star has two films on screens at present and they couldn't be more different. In Scorsese's Gangs of New York, Leo plays an immigrant bent on revenge for his dad's death in 1863 New York. In Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can, he's a 1960's con artist bent on regaining his dad's lost fortune.... Humm, did we say different? In New York, the actor talked to press about his two roles and his passion for environmental causes.
Someone brings Leo water.
Leo:(dramatically) Evian on request!
TeenHollywood: Why do we love con artists so much?
Leo: Because they're great actors, I suppose. They're able to manipulate their surroundings to their liking. There haven't been that many movies about con artists lately. Maybe The Talented Mr. Ripley was one. It's certainly fascinating and adventurous to go on the journey of the character and see how they are able to manipulate their environments like that.
