High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens has a new mentor in Tom Cruise after the movie superstar sat her down for a career chat.

The young actress has revealed she was backstage at a Spice Girls show when Victoria Beckham introduced Hudgens to Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes.

She was speechless at first, but took time to listen to Cruise's career advice and how to avoid the pitfalls of fame.

Hudgens says, "He was so sweet and such a nice guy? just telling me there isn't much that you can do, it's just part of your life now. So you have to accept it... He is an amazing guy.

"Victoria, Katie and Tom, they are all really great people."
