Nicole Richie has joined the ranks of generous celebrities as she prepares for the official launch of her children's charity with rocker boyfriend Joel Madden.

The new mom, 26, and Good Charlotte singer Madden, founded the Richie Madden Children's Foundation as they prepared for the birth of their daughter, Harlow, in January.

The pair started out asking friends to make donations to the charity instead of giving gifts to their baby daughter, in an effort to assist struggling mothers in providing for their children.

A source tells the New York Daily News, "She's hired some pretty high-powered consultants to advise her and put it all together. The website will be a registry, like for a bridal or shower registry, where low-income women list things they need for their babies. More well-off people will then go on and buy stuff for the children."

A spokesperson for Richie did not return calls.
