What is huge, creepy, wrecks New York and casts off vicious "fleas" the size of dogs!? It's that giant Cloverfield thingie and it's comin' to getcha! Nothing like a multi-story-tall monster on the rampage to bring down a good Bon Voyage party!
Story goes.. Rob (Michael Stahl-David) is gonna move to Japan (nod to Godzilla??) to be VP of a big corporation and his bye-bye party is in full swing in a cool downtown loft. Chillin' and chattin' are his bro Jason (Mike Vogel) and pal Hud (T.J. Miller) who is stuck with the video camera and asked to get each party goer to say a little something to their departing pal. Ditzy Hud isn't too techie and has a little trouble working the camera but does document Rob's sudden break-up with hot Beth (Odette Yustman) who, after their brief hook up, has arrived at the party with another dude. Hud has the hots for Marlena (Lizzy Caplan) who is pals with Lily (Jessica Lucas).
Got that? Okay, bring on the creepy critter!! Big feet cause big sound booms. Everybody goes out on the roof to check it out.. and all hell breaks loose. Explosions rock the city and, like the folks running after 9-11, the residents of the Big Apple hit the streets midst falling buildings, advancing dust and smoke and glimpses of something huge and pissed off!! The party pals, with Hud spouting one-liners and shakily documenting their every move, try to leave Manhattan via bridge.. whoops.. cables snap, roadway rises and one of them bites the water!
