Actor Orlando Bloom feels "lucky" to be alive after escaping a car crash in Los Angeles unscathed.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star was driving through the city when he crashed into a stationary car during a chase with photographers last month.

He escaped unhurt, but one of his passengers suffered a fractured neck.

But Bloom says the group was relieved to have escaped without serious injury thanks to the emergency services who attended the scene.

He tells U.s. talk show host Larry King, "It wasn't a very pleasant situation. But yeah, it is all being resolved. And thankfully, you know, everyone involved is safe and making swift recovery."

"The police and emergency services came remarkably quickly, we were very lucky. Very lucky indeed."

Bloom was under investigation of a felony hit and run because he initially left the scene of the accident after reporting it, but the Los Angeles District Attorney ruled he will not be prosecuted.
