Pop superstar Beyonce Knowles has wowed a concert crowd in Ethiopia - despite the fact Western music is largely unknown in the African nation.

The singer was taking part in the country's millennium celebrations on Saturday, and left over 5,000 eager fans screaming for her performance.

She told the audience, "I want to thank you. You have been one of the best audiences of my lifetime."

Knowles is currently travelling the globe - she opened her world tour last week.
