Our favorite Hobbit and "24" guest star Sean Astin has taken on the world of high school baseball in his warm new film The Final Season. "Season" is based on a true story about a smalltown Iowa high school baseball program that turned out countless pro players and won 20 championships before being blended with a neighboring town. The heartwarming film is about the winning team's last season and how the "move" changed the lives and hopes of a whole town.
We liked the film so much that we got in touch with Sean in his home office for a heart to heart chat about teens and sports, smalltown Americana, the making of the film and his future projects.
TeenHollywood: First Sean, what are your favorite baseball movies?
Sean: The Natural.
TeenHollywood: Me too, and Field of Dreams, those are my two favorites.
Sean: There you go!
TeenHollywood: I really loved this movie. I think it's a slice of heartland Americana that some big city folks think we've lost and haven't really.
Sean: Well, e-mail and video cameras and lots of other kinds of technology, satellites, have collapsed some of the differences that were unique and interesting and individual and good, bad, and indifferent in [the small towns] between big cities, but yeah. The movie grabs some of what is still there, some of what is being lost and just showcases it.
