Notting Hill star Hugh Grant was so scared by the prospect of performing a dance scene for his new film, he decided to get drunk beforehand.

The British actor stars in Music And Lyrics alongside Drew Barrymore, and a defining scene sees Grant performing in a music video.

And he admits he has no talent as a dancer, and only plucked up the courage to perform hip-grinding dance moves after turning to alcohol.

He says, "I worked with a choreographer who said, 'ok Hugh, we'll play some music really loud and just - express yourself.'

"Half an hour later I was still standing there stock still. I had no self to express. There's no dance in me.

"I had to resort to alcohol, so I had quite a nice day in the end."
