In this sequel to the blockbuster we all know and love, Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) is all soggy and rain-soaked in her wedding dress. She and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) are about to marry when evil officer Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) arrests them for aiding pirates in "Pirates 1". But, if the duo wants to be free, they can go after the Dead Man's Chest, a box holding the mystical beating heart of the most creepy denizen of the deep Davy Jones. Having the chest means unlimited power and Beckett, of the powerful East India Trading Company, wants it bad! Evidently, to guide them to the chest they need Jack Sparrow's faulty compass which leads anyone holding it to their heart's desire... Or something.

Of course Capt. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) needs the chest as well since he was cursed by Davy thirteen years ago and getting his hands on it is the only way to break that curse. Squid-headed Davy (Bill Nighy) captains the Flying Dutchman, a ship that must cruise the seas for all eternity packed with doomed sailors who are covered with barnacles, starfish, etc. Onboard is Will's dad Bootstrap Bill and the two attempt a reconciliation. Jack gets sidetracked to an island where he is made a king by the natives (of course they'll eventually want to make him dinner as well). At some point, all of this dovetails together and Elizabeth's would be hubby Norrington (Jack Davenport) from "Pirates 1", now destitute from his hunt for Jack Sparrow, joins the quest for the Davy chest. Also along for no real reason are the comic relief duo from 1, Ragetti and Pintel.
