Actress Kate Bosworth felt sure she was all wrong for the role of Lois Lane in Superman Returns, until director Bryan Singer personally convinced her to sign on.

The Beyond The Sea star was terrified she would lose any privacy she had if she starred in such a big budget film - even though pal Kevin Spacey, who plays Lex Luthor in the movie, recommended her for the role.

She explains, "When I met with Bryan, I was really freaked out because I had never been in anything so big. I didn't know if I'd be completely giving up my privacy."

"I sat down with him and I said, 'I think you're going to make an amazing film, and I'm such a huge fan of yours, but I don't really feel like I'm ready for something of this magnitude, so good luck and thank you very much. I appreciate your time.'"

The director finally convinced the star to sign on, after promising the characters in the film were more important than special effects and that she would be passing up an amazing role.

And Bosworth is so convinced she made the right decision she has agreed to appear in at least two Superman sequels.
