Jake Gyllenhaal: Up High on the "Mountain"
Dec 5, 2005 - Lynn Barker
This is hottie Jake Gyllenhaal's year! After playing a stock role in the big sci-fi thriller The Day After Tomorrow last year, Jake was ready to again show that he has more range as an actor as his performances in The Good Girl (2002) and cult hit Donnie Darko (2001) attest. This year, the popular star has shown serious acting chops playing a variety of roles from a bored G.I. in Jarhead to a tortured cowboy in the upcoming Brokeback Mountain. Every time we talk to Mr. "G", he bounces into the room with great energy and his huge gray-blue eyes are wide open and friendly. We make sure we are firmly in our chair or one "bat" from those big eyelashes could blow us over!

Jake's director on Brokeback Mountain, Ang Lee had very positive things to say about the actor's brave performance as a gay cowboy who has a lifelong struggle with his feelings for Heath Ledger's character. "As a young actor (Jake) is scary good. He is so skillful that it takes away some of the innocence. I just reminded him of that innocence". (WARNING: Brokeback Mountain is the story of a lifelong love between two men. It is rated "R". Make your filmgoing choices accordingly).
