Prom: Great? Lame? or a "No Show"?
Are you going to a prom or just attended one? This Spring, we were curious what a few of your fave stars thought about their own experiences... or lack of. We learned that many stars were dedicated to their craft at a very young age and were home schooled. Thus, no prom at all. Are they bitter about it? A few told us some funny stories and others just dished on their high school experiences in general. Which star is most like you? Check it out!
From Michael Steger - "90210'"s Navid...
Michael: My strongest prom memory is bad. I volunteered to be the big man. I'd just got my license and I'm like 'hey guys, I've got a jeep. I can fit a lot of you in and I'll take you to prom'. Everybody was like 'yeaaah!' But my date made me nervous and so I was driving to prom a nervous wreck. I'm like 'there's my exit'. 'No! That's not the street' so I veered back on the freeway. I could not focus. So I think by the time I got to the prom, I'd scared everyone driving like a maniac. On the way back nobody wanted to drive back with me...even my date.
From Tristan Wilds - "90210'"s Dixon
Tristan: Michael has so many funny stories it's... not even funny. I was doing "The Wire" (on TV) and I was supposed to be going to prom and I didn't know if I would be able to go or not. They said, 'okay, you can go but you can't cut your hair'. So I had my hair all just weirded out. It was bad! I didn't even have time to ask for a date. They told me I could go to prom like a week before. Everybody was taken. I had to find a suit in a week. It was so bad.
From Vanessa Hudgens -High School Musical, Beastly, Sucker Punch
Vanessa: I did not go to prom. My only prom memory is High School Musical which was a big fake prom but I still got to get all dressed up and have a date (Zac) and have my best friends there. So, my memory is that it was a lot of fun!
From Matt Prokop: High School Musical 3 and the film Furry Vengeance
Matt: Sadly, I did not go to prom. I became an actor before that and was kind of like home-schooled. There is a program here in California that I was doing and they had a prom that I could have gone to but it was sort of awkward.
TeenHollywood: So HSM3 was the closest you got to a real prom?
Matt: Yeah, that was the case for a lot of people (in the cast). They didn't get to go to their prom or never had prom so it was an emotional moment for everyone when the prom scene happened. It was like 'awwww, it's like we're actually having a prom'.
From Sterling Knight - "Sonny with a Chance's" Chad and "Starstruck's" Christopher.
Sterling: Well, I did not go to prom. I started home-schooling as soon as I was halfway through ninth grade. That was so I could move out to California and start pursuing my dream of becoming an actor. I really wasn't that upset about it. I knew, from a very young age, I wanted nothing to do with high school and these people and their problems that were,.. well, everything was the end of the world for these people. It was very petty and naive and maybe, in hindsight, I shouldn't have been so up front about the fact that I thought it was naive and immature. It's not easy to make friends where you're telling people they're naive.
But, I never had any interest in prom and that whole thing. I knew that, in the grand scheme of things, most of the people I knew in high school, I probably wasn't gonna talk to and I knew that, whatever girlfriend I had, I was definitely not gonna marry her. Nowadays, some kids still get caught up in that first love and they forget to really look at the grand scheme of things. But, I was that kid that was constantly planning five moves ahead.
From Lindsey Shaw: "10 Things I Hate About You"
I was home-schooled from my sophomore to senior year in high school and I got invited to my prom. I went to Notre Dame High School (in L.A.) my Freshman year and I got invited and ewww, I got danced up on by some nasty people and I didn't end up going home with my date. It was awkward and just bad. Come on, dude, there are better ways to commemorate your high school experience.
From: Ethan Peck - "10 Things"
The event itself was a bad memory for me. I never fit in in high school. I especially felt strange but it's all good. I look back on it now and I'm in a good place. Just didn't enjoy prom.
