Sorority Row: DVD

From Summit Entertainment

Think college is or will be all fun, freedom and parties? The sisters of Theta Pi experience all that but they also have to survive a hooded serial killer with a pimped out tire iron!!

"Sorority Row" on DVD | Summit EntertainmentIt's senior year and five sisters of the Theta Pi sorority are ready to party for the last time but first they plan serious payback for a dude who cheated on their sis Megan (Audrina Patridge). They'll panic out the horndog bigtime and watch him squirm.  Of course we wouldn't have a horror film if the prank didn't go horribly wrong resulting in Megan ending up dead!

The Thetas (mean girl Jessica (Leah Pipes), morally upright Cassidy (Briana Evigan), boozed-out ho Chugs (Margo Harshman), flirty Claire (Jamie Chung), and nerdy Ellie (Rumer Willis) decide to hide the body and try to forget.

In true "you slay-you gotta pay" horror film formula, months later, they get texts and a video of the death on their cells and a killer is picking them off one by one with his own tricked-out version of the weapon used on Megan!

Special Features: A few on both the DVD and Blu-Ray versions. "Sorority Secrets: Stories from the Set" presents the cast members introducing behind-the-scenes" footage. Hey, they were all freezing in their underwear in the Megan kill scene and they all bonded and had a blast. Kind of fun to watch. We spoke to the cast when the movie came out and did realize that the girls had really bonded to become very good pals.

If you are a horror fan you might already know all the info presented in "Killer 101". The writers and director tell you the formula for a successful horror film and how they followed it. If you aren't aware of the formula, hey watch this. "Kill Switch" is a kick for slasher fans in that it allows you to jump from kill to kill in the movie without all that bothersome "story" stuff.

The "Deleted Scenes" are mostly longer versions of what made it into the film. A few cute "filler" scenes taken out for pacing are worth a watch as is a very brief 'alternate ending' that is more vague than the one they used. The "Outtakes" are mostly flubs but also the girls getting stuck in an SUV unable to get out on "action" kinda silly. You also get more silly flubs.  Okay but we are sure there were many more we weren't given.

We didn't get the Blu-Ray version but we understand it has a PIP Video Commentary with the Director and Cast.. (picture in picture in which you see the film while the cast comments in a small window on your screen). Coulda used that here.

Wrapping Up:  If you have a crew of gal-pals, you will probably recognize the "types" of girls in this film.  You may know someone just like them or you might be just like one of them. That's why you might identify with the sisterhood-gone-wrong scenario of this slasher flick.

I also really got a kick out of Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) playing the kick-butt, shotgun blastin' house mother of the sorority. She was a hoot!  Your boy-pals will like this for the femme "hottie" factor so this is definitely a co-ed watchable spook-fest. Worth at least a rental.
