DVD Review Round-Up: TV Show Collections
There are three new DVDs on shelves or coming out soon that cover teen fave TV shows and, for the sake of the fans, we checked them out.
From Buena Vista Home Entertainment
Kyle XY: The Final Season- 3 Disc Set
You know Kyle on ABC Family. He's the super-powered, tall, dark and handsome teen with no navel and gorgeous blue eyes. When the show ended with Season three, "Kyle" fans were super ticked-off when loose ends abounded. Series creator Julie Plec comes through in this set with a feature that reveals most of the Kyle and Jessi origin secrets at last.
This final season, Kyle and Jessi try to rescue Amanda from Lantok and a whole slew of soap-operaesque things like break ups, pregnancies etc. abound in the ten episodes included.
Special Features: Several that will be great for fans. Kyle XY: Future Revealed" is a featurette that answers most but not all questions about Kyle and Jessi's past as the show's producers guide you through what they would have written if they'd had another season to wrap things up. Great reason to get this DVD!
You get a producer/writer commentary on the "Life Support" episode and "Bringing Down the House" which are useful. There are 12 "Deleted Scenes" that are pretty short but okay. Where is a funny blooper reel?
Wrapping Up: If you were a show fan, you really need this DVD to complete your set and answer a few of the haunting questions. Well worth a buy for fans.
The Secret Life of the American Teenager: Volume Three
In this season, Amy (Shailene Woody) is desperately trying to juggle being a mom, going to school and work and she's still up in the air about the baby’s father Ricky (Darren Kagasoff) who wants to be a part of baby John’s life but doesn't really seem ready and Ben (Kenny Baumann) her boyfriend who doesn't think much of Ricky. Amy's parents split up and Mom (Molly Ringwald) is dating someone new and is pregnant.
Grace (Megan Park) is ready to hook up with Jack (Greg Finley II) but blames herself when there is a family tragedy. Adrian Francia Raisa) is also in some life-changing relationships. This set includes the first 12 episodes of Season Two.
Special Features: Only one but it's kinda creative. “Hat Chat” presents cast members pulling questions out of a hat and answering them. This lets fans learn more about the characters and the actors playing them. Nice way to do the usual "interview" featurette. You also get the Pilot Episode for the new ABC Family series "Make It or Break It".
Wrapping Up: This show presents a very real picture of modern teens. You'll recognize people you know in the characters, maybe even yourself. The season on this set is well-presented here and is well worth a buy for fans of the show or, to catch up if you would like to check it out.
I Heart Jonas
Just before Valentine's Day, the Jo-Bros are putting out this episode collection from their TV show that focuses on romantic or "love trouble" stories. Nick, Joe and Kevin picked seven episodes featuring matters of the heart including "Fashion Victim" in which Joe tries to mess up Stella's (Chelsea Staub's) date with another dude. You also see a wanna-be actress make a play for Joe.
Special Features: Just one but it's cute. “You’ve Just Been Jo-Bro’d” features special guest Jordin Sparks who thinks she's doing a radio interview with the guys but they end up calling in to confuse her. Just a cute "Punk'd-style" feature.
Bonus Gift: Inside the package you get three picture magnets with three very cute pics of the guys all dressed up for a date in jackets and ties! Yum.
Wrapping Up: This is a cute collection of episodes that any Jo-Bro fan would love to collect. The Jordin Sparks extra is fun as well.
