Jay-Z Brings Stars to New York on 9/11
Rap superstar Jay-Z brought together a star-studded line-up including his wife Beyonce, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Kanye West, Rihanna and Mary J Blige on Friday night to help raise money for victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
More than 20,000 fans filled New York City's famous Madison Square Garden for a special tribute concert, eight years to the day after the city was brought to a standstill by the Al Qaeda-lead attacks.
And they were treated to a spectacular show, including duets with Kanye West and Rihanna and a solo performance from Jay-Z's spouse Beyonce.
After paying tribute to Michael Jackson with a cover of the Jackson 5 hit I Want You Back, the New Yorker also offered a call of solidarity to the sell-out crowd in his hometown, telling them, "They believed they would weaken us. They were sorely mistaken... We stand here tonight even stronger."
The one-off gig raised more than $1 million (lb666,000) for the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund.
