DVD review: Jonas Brothers Concert

Jonas Brothers The 3D Concert Experience: Deluxe Extended Movie

This deluxe box set comes with a Blu-Ray disc, regular DVD disc and a digital copy. Only the Blu-Ray version is in 3-D and you get 4 pair of glasses in the box. We aren't reviewing Blu-Ray yet but we did watch the DVD in this set and the 2-D version looks and sounds really great.

If you are a Jo-Bro fan you know that popular modern country singer Taylor Swift and Disney darling Demi Lovato perform during the guys' tour. Taylor sings "Should've Said No" and, frankly, I've heard her sound better but it's a nice performance. Demi joins the bros for the "Camp Rock" hit "This is Me" and it's a peppy, fun performance. I'm not going to list all the songs. If you are a Jonas fan, you know 'um anyway. I will say that the DVD combines and intercuts between the guys on the road, backstage, at listening parties, radio interviews and fan events and their actual concert performance.

Screaming, running fans are peppered throughout, some wearing "Mrs. Jonas" bride outfits. There are gay guy fans, older fans, younger fans but all are super enthusiastic. You see the guys arriving for their Times Square midnight CD release and being floored when they see the huge crowd. There is a rehearsal in Central Park, etc.

Special Features: "Up Close & Personal" is a featurette on the making of the "Burnin' Up" tour. You get the guys' history and humble beginnings and see their tour memories, working with their tour director on the look of the show, adding a string section, thanking their crew, practicing vocals, getting wardrobe fittings and practicing their backflips and other stunts. You see the pyrotechnics being tested and watch Joe use his "Joe-Cam". The guys talk about problems in different towns as one thing or another failed to work correctly. We get their Rolling Stone photo shoot and basically hear, over and over, how much they love their fans.

"2 Bonus Songs" are "Love Bug" and "Shelf" both recorded during the concert but cut from the final concert movie. Parts of these are sung over behind-the-scenes footage. Nice little songs.

Wrapping Up: If you are a Jo-Bro fan or just want to know what all the fuss is about, check out this cool combo DVD set. I'm told there is great depth in the 3-D version but the DVD version looks pretty amazing too. You get lots of chances to watch Joe, Nick and Kevin on stage, putting their tour together and interacting with fans. This set is a real must for fans and a cool rental for the curious. BTW, you can also buy or rent the Extended DVD Edition plus digital copy separately, without the Blu-Ray 3-D version.
