Get "Fired Up" with Nick and Eric!
We first asked "who is that adorable guy?" when Nick D'Agosto appeared in the dark comedy Election with Reese Witherspoon a few years ago. Nick has since played West, Claire's boyfriend on "Heroes" and a brainy student in Rocket Science. Eric Christian Olsen's true blonde good looks were hidden behind an awful brown bowl cut as he played Lloyd in Dumb and Dumberer but he's since co-starred in Cellular, Not Another Teen Movie and the upcoming Sunshine Cleaners. On February 20th you can catch these two hotties as high school football stars who spend the summer at cheerleading camp to hook up with as many girls as possible in the comedy Fired Up.
We were impressed with the duo's great comic timing in the very funny film and sat down in Beverly Hills to chat about fun on set, learning to cheerlead, their dating advice and what was the craziest thing either had done to get a date! Picture these cuties in jeans and a tee [Eric] and striped, long-sleeved shirt [Nick]. Check out our exclusive interview!!
TeenHollywood: You guys are actually doing cheers and tossing girls into the air in this movie. Were you hurt making the film?
Eric: There were numerous injuries while training for this movie. There was a three week bootcamp on cheerleading.
Nick: It sort of started off with a bang. It might have been our first day of really tossing the girls. But we got Sarah Roemer up there and she's learning how to stand the right way and we're learning how to throw the right way and we were a little off. Eric threw a little bit higher. I threw a little bit lower and Sarah went straight up in the air and I caught her with my face. Eric tried to save us but ended up dog-piling us.
Eric: Nick decided not to use his arms.
Nick: Or my legs to help get out of the way.
Eric: He caught her on his lip and cheekbone.
Nick: Nothing broken though, except pride.
TeenHollywood: Ouch! How many times did you guys have to shoot that nude cheer scene until you got it right? (note: the guys strategically cover certain areas with pom poms!)
Eric: There's probably four hours of footage of pieces you're not supposed to see. It was like four in the morning. It's out there somewhere on Facebook. You train and figure out how to place everything but then it's four in the morning and you've been doing it for seven hours and I'm like covering his eye.
Nick: And I'd drop the pom pom and be holding his [butt]. [laughter].
Eric: This thing has gone terribly awry.
Nick: But we rehearsed it actually quite a long time ahead of time. What was funny about it was, as we were rehearsing it in an office or on a stage, we're fully clothed in sweat pants or something. But it comes to a reckoning with reality when you get on set that night and you're completely naked.
TeenHollywood: You shot Winter for Summer so was it really cold out there?
Eric: You wouldn't have known but it was very cold. That was the second to the coldest scene. The night after the cheer scene was the coldest night.
Nick: You could see your breath but we were doing exercises, push-ups, keeping ourselves fit and warm.
TeenHollywood: Was either one of you an athlete in high school like your characters are?
Nick: I tried to be an athlete in high school. I played sports with a lot of my friends, just basketball, football but I was never on a varsity team or anything like that.
Eric: I played all sorts of sports. I played tennis and hockey. I never played basketball. I started that out here but I'm not very good.
Nick: He's a defensive enforcer. He throws his body around like a hockey player.
TeenHollywood: What is the craziest thing you guys have ever done to get a girl?
Nick: I don't have anything. [He starts making up a wild B.S. story.. we stop him, laughing] No? Not going for that? Okay, I was able to get some girls so I don't have a really great story but he does....
Eric: I've done just about everything to get girls. When I was at Pepperdine University, I was working at Abercrombie and Fitch and a girl walked in and I was so blown away by her that I switched places with the guy running the cash register and talked to her and her dad for fifteen minutes. I found out they were here looking at schools but they weren't looking at Pepperdine. They couldn't get a tour. Sooo, I went home and made my buddy memorize as much as he could about the school to play the tour guide and said 'In the middle of it, be sure to talk about me and my story to get them excited'. He gives them the tour and tells them 'Eric came out here with five hundred dollars and an '87 Chevy Nova'. I ended up being good friends with her and helped her write her essays to get into school. She ended up coming to Pepperdine and we ended up going out.
Nick: On my God! That's the third story I've heard today! That's good!
Eric: I make up these huge, elaborate schemes and he doesn't even have to try.
Nick: Until they find out what I'm worth!! [laughter]
TeenHollywood: Did you two talk to any real male cheerleaders for research?
Nick: There were guys on our team and the other teams too. There were the professionals. These guys travel the world and do these kinds of competitions.
Eric: We had Zack Woodley who is our choreographer and he's amazing. He's also a great communicator. He answered all our questions. Everybody else was pro and then you have we two guys who'd never done it before.
TeenHollywood: Eric, your character Nick is hot for the older cheer camp counselor Diora [played by Molly Sims]. Sooo, have you ever had a crush on a Cougar [hot older woman]?
Eric: Oh my God, yeah! Especially when I was like 22. You cruise around Malibu. There's beautiful women in Malibu and I had like ten dollars to my name and these women would be pulling up in their Jaguars and Mercedes and I'm like 'hey, what's up? Where's your husband? In a foreign country? You wanna go swimming at your pool?' [ Nick dies laughing]. You'd be surprised. I was in a lot of pools!
TeenHollywood: You guys have really good chemistry as buddies. You need to play BFFs again in a movie. You are a great team.
Nick: Thanks!
Eric: I'll make some phone calls!
TeenHollywood: You hadn't worked together before. Did you meet early to get to know each other before filming or what?
Nick: I was cast first in the part and I was coming in and doing chemistry readings with a few other guys and Eric came in after about four or five and when he walked in, it was really clear that this was the guy. This was the team. From there, we felt a lot of excitement. I don't think we hung out much before shooting.
Eric: We did at camp. We'd go to lunch with [Sarah] Roemer and hang out.
Nick: Oh, yeah, we did [cheer] camp for three weeks. Got to know each other there and then, as we started to get into the rhythm of the shoot, we started to realize we had a great rapport.
TeenHollywood: So, Eric, your character's name is Nick and, uh, Nick, your real name is Nick so wasn't that confusing on set?
Nick: Yeah. The director called me Shawn (his character's name).
Eric: I think he'd just say Eric and Shawn. He would have confused himself calling me Nick.
Nick: And I would have turned around.
TeenHollywood: What is the most fun thing about cheerleading and the worst thing?
Eric: The coolest thing about it is you're hanging out with 300 beautiful women.
Nick: Uh huh.

Eric: The crappiest part is you're wearing a velour Tiger-striped piece of crap outfit. It's uncomfortable, itchy.
Nick: And also, the girls aren't impressed with your skills.
Eric: They're all very talented and you realize they are just trying to schlep you along.
TeenHollywood: There is a situation in the film. If either of you liked a girl and the guy she was dating was a creep and cheating on her, would you tell her?
Nick: That's a great question! Shawn made the decision that he really wants to be with this girl. It's a sticky situation. Maybe just keep hanging around. Never go away. So when she starts to figure it out, you're there. But don't blow your cover too soon.
Eric: I don't think you have to because if a guy's a cheater, all you have to do is present her with a better option. I think if you are there consistently, showing her that she deserves better than that, it's going to unfold itself.
Nick: Unless he tries to take her out of the country. In which case, slash that plane's tires, get on an enormous podium with a megaphone and scream your love! [laughter]
TeenHollywood: What scene got cut out that you hope is on the DVD?
Eric: There is a ten minute segment with John Michael Higgins [who plays the cheer Coach]. He starts performing "Chicago" in German!
Nick: I wasn't there. Sarah Roemer and I had to shoot another scene at that point. I hope that's on the DVD. He is outstanding.
TeenHollywood: Why should older teens and college kids go see this film?
Eric: It's so much fun. There's nothing better than walking into a screening with five hundred people and all you hear for an hour and a half is laughter. You love these two guys. It's Wedding Crashers. It's Superbad. It's Bring It On and there's something in there for everybody. It's a blast.
Nick: And there's a great snowball effect. Along the way they are picking up great, outrageous characters. There are reasons to go see it just for the supporting cast. Cute girls, cute guys. It's a fun, exciting ride.
TeenHollywood: What kinds of characters have you not been able to play yet, that you would like to?
Eric: I wish they'd let me play somebody smart!
Nick: The bad guy. I don't get to be the scheming, mysterious guy, the really nasty person in the end.
Eric: I've played the bad guy. On "Brothers and Sisters" [on TV], I'm the good guy that backs down. The guy that doesn't get the girl. It's an interesting character to play.
TeenHollywood: What's next for each of you?
Eric: Two episodes to go on "Brothers and Sisters" then I'm done. Then Sunshine Cleaning comes out March 20th and Six Wives of Henry LeFay comes out the end of May.
Nick: And I've got Mardi Gras coming out August 28th. [TeenHollywood visited the New Orleans set. It was a blast and we'll report on that this Summer].
