Will Smith Wins Hitler Comment Case

A London-based news agency has admitted in court its story quoting Will Smith as saying Adolf Hitler was a good person was misleading and published in error.

The Guardian newspaper reported the World Entertainment News Network has also agreed to pay Smith's legal costs and an undisclosed sum in damages, which the Hollywood actor promised to donate to charity.

The entertainment news company reportedly apologized for causing Smith -- the star of "I Am Legend," "Hitch," "Men in Black" and "Independence Day" -- any embarrassment, as well.

The case stems from a story WENN ran in December with the headline "Smith: Hitler was a good person."

In the article, which was picked up by various other media outlets around the world, WENN claimed Will Smith praised Hitler in an interview with the Scottish Daily Record.

The Guardian said Smith protested and WENN printed a correction and apology. However, that didn't garner anywhere near as much attention as the first article did, Smith's lawyers argued.
