Jolie Shines A Light On Plight Of Orphans
Humanitarian actress Angelina Jolie highlighted the plight of orphaned children around the world yesterday, with a fundraising appearance in Washington, D.C.
The Tomb Raider star, who has three adopted children, was speaking at a press conference in the US capital to announce the launch of Global Action For Children (GAC), a charity that raises money for orphans in the developing world.
Jolie said, "I am here to simply ask you to think about orphaned children not as a burden but as a great opportunity.
"Their education is an investment in our future... They have had to work very, very hard to survive, but when they are given a chance, they grow strong, stronger than most.
"This is a happy day because it is not often enough that these children are represented in this town."
Last year, Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt donated $1 million to GAC.
