Chris Brown: On the Set of His New Film!

17-year-old musical artist/actor Chris Brown hit charts with the popular "Run It" from his debut album in 2005. Then, the cute young artist hit the road for the Up Close and Personal Tour last summer and is now working on his sophomore CD tentatively titled "Exclusive". But, stop with music? No way. After some TV guest shots, the young talent hit the big screen in Stomp the Yard co-starring with Ne-Yo, Meagan Good and Columbus Short. Currently, Chris is shooting the feature film This Christmas, a family story due out this next holiday season.

We were invited to check out the set near L.A. and talk with Chris. The interior set for the home of the Whitfield family is very impressive; a beautiful living and dining room filled with great, colorful African art influences. We caught up with the young star between scenes and grabbed some exclusive time outside his trailer on a sunny California day.

TeenHollywood: How did you get involved in doing this film?

Chris: I did Stomp the Yard for Screen Gems and Clint Culpepper, the head of Screen Gems, called me again about another movie This Christmas that's going to be a great look for the Holidays. I was a little skeptical, at first, because I was still balancing my album trying to get everything done but he's like 'oh, we can balance that schedule for you'. I'm like 'I'm cool with it'. I read the script. I was a great script. Had a lot of great actors in it; talkin' about Columbus Short, who was in Stomp the Yard with me, Delroy Lindo, Loretta Devine, Regina King, Lauren London, Keith Robinson, Laz Alonzo; a lot of great cast. From top to bottom, it was just a great look. I knew I could get my acting chops better by working with all these great people so I joined them.

TeenHollywood: What is the story of the movie?

Chris: It's about this family coming together for Christmas and they go through ups and downs, problems within the family. There are little twists in the movie but it's just a great family film for all ages, groups, demographics.

TeenHollywood: Who do you play?

Chris: They call me Baby and I'm the youngest out of everybody. I'm like the kid who has a lot of girls, I got a motorcycle and I've got issues but I'm the one who tries to make fun out of every situation and I get away with a lot so I'm always the one who is bragging.

TeenHollywood: So can you ride a cycle or did they get you a stunt man?

Chris: They got me doin' some stuff on the bike but they got a little stuntman too. They asked me if I could ride and I've got 4-wheelers and dirt bikes at my house so I'm familiar with all that back in the country. I can do all that.

TeenHollywood: What scene did you shoot today on This Christmas?

Chris: I shot a scene where I'm getting fussed at by my parents, my mom is fussing at my sisters and me because we snuck out and stuff. It's funny but it's about regular kids getting in trouble.

TeenHollywood: What is Christmas like around your house?

Chris: Christmas is hectic. Everybody's over at my house during Christmas. People arrive on 4-wheelers and we have cook-outs and party all night. It's fun!

TeenHollywood: Where are you living now?

Chris: I live in Virginia. I moved back home.

TeenHollywood: So you just came out here for this movie?

Chris: Oh yeah. I ain't never gonna be Hollywood. I'm always country.

TeenHollywood: What do you want to say to your fans who might not be too familiar with your movie work?

Chris: Well, this movie is gonna show another side of my acting in family issues that everybody can go through. They can just see me blossoming into something bigger and better for the future.

TeenHollywood: Who is your role model as far as acting is concerned?

Chris: It's a lot of different people. There are so many talented young actors and actresses out there now and [I like] The Rock. The Rock is a great actor, definitely Will Smith, Columbus Short is a great actor Keith Robinson, Beyonce is also an incredible actress as well as Regina King, Loretta Devine. There are so many great ones.

TeenHollywood: Who would you like to co-star in a film with if you could pick anybody?

Chris: Wow, Denzel Washington!

TeenHollywood: Do you have your own clothing style or do you like someone's style and try to dress a little like them? [Today, Chris is in a green and white Nike zip up jacket and jeans]

Chris: Well, for the most part, I don't try that. That's like high school. I don't try to do that. Now, it's more along the lines of me setting a trend and being an individual and settin' it where people want to dress like me instead of me dressing like other people. I dress the best way I can and if it don't match, then they can say it but I ain't had no complaints yet!

TeenHollywood: How do you think girls your age should treat a guy if they want to get close to him?

Chris: They can be themselves. I'm not gonna tell 'um a certain way because there shouldn't be one way you have to treat a guy, it should be both ways, an equal level of respect and courtesy so I think both people, if they like each other and click, then it's just that connection.

TeenHollywood: If a girl is going to get a date with you, what does she have to do?

Chris: She has to put up with my schedule. That's the only thing. My schedule is non-stop so the date might be five to ten minutes long. She'd have to be acceptable to that.

TeenHollywood: It must be hard to get anything going then.

Chris: Yeah. You know that! I ain't got no girlfriend right now. I'm lookin' but I know my schedule is so heavy. Sometimes [dating] isn't even an option.

TeenHollywood: You are trying to keep the music and the acting separate?

Chris: Yeah. Well, I sing in this movie but it's not Chris Brown singing, not a whole performance sequence of me, the entertainer side. I really want to show other talents that I'm born with like basketball in other movies. I think my next movie is gonna be a basketball movie. But, right now, my music and my acting is gonna be totally different. My acting name is going to probably be Christopher Brown or Christopher Maurice and then my singing, I'm just going to keep Chris Brown.

TeenHollywood: What would you like to say to people out there who still haven't seen you in an acting role?

Chris: I'm just gonna let the audience decide. That's what makes a hundred percent of everything work anyway; the audience. They buy. They're the consumer. I'm just going to say, when they see me in a movie, I think they're gonna be surprised. I really didn't have too many acting coaches. In my first movie, I didn't have an acting coach. On this movie, I really didn't have one. It's just me, all natural, just trying to show my ability.

TeenHollywood: What music are you listening to now?

Chris: I'm listening to Akon, Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Beyonce, I'm talkin' about Rascal Flatts, everybody. Little Wayne. There are a lot of hip hop artists I'm listening to.

TeenHollywood: What movie last year, Oscar buzz or not, did you most enjoy?

Chris: X-Men! I love that.

TeenHollywood: Would you like to be in a super hero movie?

Chris: Definitely! I'm open to a lot of different movies.

TeenHollywood: What were your favorite comic book heroes growing up?

Chris: SpiderMan and Batman. They might have to create a new superhero for me to play!

Chris is leaving the shoot for the day and climbs into the driver's seat of a huge, black suburban SUV with his manager/agent riding shotgun. He waves and takes off for the highway. All roads lead to good destinations for this talented teen.
