Britney Spears' family pleaded with the pop star to divorce husband Kevin Federline after a particularly volatile argument.

The Toxic star attended Federline's Playing With Fire launch party in Los Angeles on October 31 where the couple got into an explosive argument, leaving Spears in tears.

A source tells American publication Us Weekly, "She came to support him and he treated her like s**t."

The following day, Spears' close-knit family went to her home in Malibu to convince her to begin divorce proceedings against Federline.

Spears mother attended the meeting, along with divorce attorney Laura Wasser, who had drafted Spears' prenuptial agreement.

According to the source, "Kevin was never popular with anyone around Britney. She finally wised up."
