Mos Def Lands Starring Role As Eddie Bunker
Mos Def (The Woodsman, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) has been tapped to star as Eddie Bunker in 16 Blocks. The film also stars Bruce Willis and will be directed by Richard Donner. Shooting has already begun in Toronto.
Written by Richard Wenk, 16 Blocks follows Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis), an aging cop assigned the mundane task of escorting a young witness named Eddie Bunker (Mos Def) 16 blocks from police custody to the courthouse at 100 Centre Street in New York City. Meanwhile, forces are at work to stop them, specifically Eddie, from making it there.
Mos Def can currently be seen starring as Ford Prefect in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The film is an adaptation of the classic Douglas Adams' sci-fi best seller. Def also recently appeared in The Woodsmen, opposite Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick and Benjamin Bratt, which was just released on DVD, and as Dr. Vivien Thomas in the HBO Film Something The Lord Made, for which he garnered an Emmy, Golden Globe, NAACP Image Award and Golden Satellite Award
Additional film credits include Spike Lee's Bamboozled, MTV's Carmen: A Hip Hopera, 2002's critically acclaimed Monster's Ball and the 2002 romantic comedy Brown Sugar, for which he received an NAACP Image Award nomination. Musically, his sophomore solo album, The New Danger, was released in 2004.
