"Troy" already available on home video in Paraguay
Pirated copies of "Troy," the recently released U.S. blockbuster film, are already being sold for 2.5 euros($3.05) in the Paraguayan smugglers' haven of Ciudad del Este, the local press reported Thursday.
The Warner Brothers-produced epic starring Brad Pitt "is available at malls and street stands in Ciudad del Este," some 330 kilometers (205 miles) from this capital, ABC Color newspaper said.
"Yesterday we bought the movie on VCD (video compact disc) and the vendor assured us they would have the DVD by the weekend. The VCD is in Spanish and it is a good copy," the daily reported.
The film premiered two weeks ago in director Wolfgang Petersen's native Berlin.
Ciudad del Este, located on the triple border area where Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay converge, is known to be haven for pirated goods and contraband.
The Paraguayan attorney general's office occasionally sends a group to the city to destroy and confiscate illegal copies of electronics, video games, CDs, brand-name clothes and movies.
