DVD Review: The Osbournes: The First Season
Available now: Outrageous and uncensored! That's the show and that's the new DVD compilation of MTV's rockin' first family reality show's first season. There are more than five hours of Bonus footage on the two disks including all the fave moments...Ozzy can't work the remote, the neighbors drive Ozzy to hurl wood at them, the cat chase, the dog chases, Kelly's gynecologist rant. It's all here including the move-in boxes marked "Linens" and, as the camera pans down.. one marked "devil heads".
The most totally entertaining special feature for me was the "Ozzy Translator" that finally gives viewers a colorful, animated translation of what the heck the bat biter is saying! Outtakes and unaired footage aren't really any more outrageous than what we've already seen but all are entertaining. The trivia game "Find That Dookie" is so sick it's hilarious. In the set-top game, viewers have to match the steaming pile of doggie poo with the right Osbourne family canine depositor. Where else but on an Osbourne DVD would you find a game like that? Osbourne Bingo which requires you to download cards from the internet, and Edit A Scene are a kick as well.
Commentary track with the family is just as dysfunctional as you would expect so it fits in perfectly. Menus are clever as the whole family sits down to watch their DVD and we go with Jack to his computer screen to select other features.
Whether you are laughing with this family, at them or feel your family members ARE them, you'll get a lot of laughs from this DVD. Most notable after watching the entire season is what lies underneath all the profanity...a great deal of offbeat but solid family love.
Four out of five stars for outrageous entertainment.
