Katie Holmes Was Character's Inspiration
"Traffic" writer Stephen Gaghan freaked actress Katie Holmes out when he told her his psychopathic new character was written with her in mind.
Holmes still had to audition for the role of Katie Burke in "Abandon" but was told Gaghan wrote the part after watching Holmes star in the movie "Wonder Boys."
Holmes admits a chance meeting with Gaghan in a coffee shop led the British writer/director to admit the Katie in the spooky film was based on her.
She says, "We ended up spending a couple of hours together and he was so nice and I was like, 'It must be fate, this movie's really going to happen, I ran into the writer and it's gotta happen. He's so nice, I hope it happens, I hope they make this!'"
"And then he told me the Katie character was partly me anyway. It made me wonder why I had to audition in the first place."
