Ashanti almost gave up her singing ambitions to become an athlete after breaking her school's high jump record.
The singer was offered placements at Princeton, Clark and Hampton Universities when she was 18 but turned them down to concentrate on her music career.
Ashanti's 33 feet nine inch (10.27 metre) record at Glen Cove High School in New York still stands.
