How Rene Zellweger Became 'Bridget'
Oh, to have Rene Zellweger's problem: not what to wear to the Oscars, but how to gain weight.
A couple of years ago, the normally slender actress put on more that 20 pounds to play the weight-obsessed lead in the screen adaptation of "Bridget Jones's Diary." (All that noshing must have paid off: She bagged an Academy Award nomination this year for best actress.)
After the movie wrapped, Zellweger joked in interviews that she took her "artistic responsibility" seriously: She would order garlic bread to eat with generous servings of pizza, pour Thousand Island dressing on her salad and add a couple of buttered croissants to her meals. She was under orders to count her calories, and if she hadn't met her goal by evening, she would eat chocolate bars or drink a weight-gain shake before going to bed.
