Josh Hartnett Proud of 'Black Hawk Down'

Josh Hartnett has Oscar hopes for his new movie, "Black Hawk Down," and he's not shy about sharing them.

"It's really good," the 23-year-old actor tells W magazine for its January issue. "It's really very good. I think it's going to be - if this means anything - it's probably going to be nominated."

Hartnett stars as Army Ranger Staff Sgt. Matt Eversmann in the movie, based on the botched October 1993 mission into Mogadishu, Somalia, in which 18 U.S. soldiers died and 73 others were injured. Directed by Ridley Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the movie co-stars Ewan McGregor, Tom Sizemore and Sam Shepard.

Hartnett said he hopes the movie, which is being released two months earlier than initially scheduled, provides perspective on the war going on in Afghanistan.

"This movie isn't going to solve any of the questions, obviously - it's a film - but it's a really good film and a really honest film about what happened over there," he said. "And hopefully when a movie like this comes out, people will think twice about sending our troops on the ground into a land that we don't know anything about, to be slaughtered."
