Mariah Carey Film Release Delayed

The release of Mariah Carey's new film has been postponed for three weeks following the star's emotional and physical breakdown.

"Glitter," which stars Carey as an aspiring pop singer, was to open in the US on August 31. But 20th Century Fox said it would now open on September 21.

Carey, who is undergoing psychiatric treatment in a clinic, had cancelled her publicity tour for the film, along with other public appearances.

Her new album, also titled "Glitter," was scheduled for release on August 21; it is unclear if its release will be delayed to coincide with the film's opening.

The 31-year-old Grammy winner checked herself into a hospital on July 25 after suffering "an emotional and physical breakdown," according to her spokeswoman, Cindi Berger.

Berger said Carey had been working too hard and getting too little sleep working on Glitter, the soundtrack and another film, Wise Girls, due out next year.

Berger said last night that Carey's condition was unchanged. Carey is under psychiatric care at an undisclosed facility.
