Mariah Carey Cancels Public Appearances
"Exhausted" pop singer Mariah Carey has canceled all public appearances, including her headlining performance at Wednesday's MTV 20th anniversary party.
Last week, Carey's publicist said the diva checked herself into a hospital July 25 for "extreme exhaustion," just hours after some odd behavior.
Spokeswoman Cindi Berger said Carey's exhaustion was a result of the singer's hectic schedule. Carey just wrapped movie roles in "Glitter" and "Wiseguys," and recorded the soundtrack to "Glitter." The album is due out Aug. 21.
Berger would not say where Carey was being treated. Information about whether she had been released from the hospital was unavailable Sunday.
Before checking herself in, Carey posted this voice message on her official Web site: "I'm trying to understand things in life right now, and so I really don't feel that I should be doing music right now. Right now I need a break, so I will, as a human being, take a break." The message has since been removed.
Last week, Carey showed up unannounced on MTV's "Total Request Live," rambling on about her mother's love for TRL. Carey then ripped off her T-shirt, revealing a tight tank top and skimpy shorts.
