Doherty Caught Drunk Driving
Shannen Doherty, star of the WB television network sitcom "Charmed," was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving early Thursday morning in Thousand Oaks, California Highway Patrol authorities said.
Doherty, 29, was pulled over at 2:43 a.m. at Ventu Park Road after a CHP officer observed her black Ford 2001 pickup truck weaving in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 near Lynn Road, said CHP Officer Scott Peterson.
She was arrested at 3:01 a.m. and taken to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura to give a blood sample, Peterson said.
A truck from Eddie's Towing in Newbury Park was called to pick up her truck, according to CHP records.
The blood test results will determine if Doherty was driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08. The tests could take several weeks to complete, Peterson said.
Doherty was booked into Ventura County Jail at 5:35 a.m.
She was released at 9:15 a.m., said Eric Nishimoto, a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
She is scheduled to be arraigned in a Ventura courtroom Jan. 26. She lives in Culver City.
Doherty, an actress since she was 10, made her big Hollywood splash in the early 1990s as the bratty Brenda Walsh in the Fox sitcom "Beverly Hills, 90210."
Doherty's cranky on-screen persona followed her off the show. She argued with co-stars and once got into a fight at a Los Angeles nightclub.
She was kicked off the show in 1994 after a dispute with producer Aaron Spelling.
In 1997, a Los Angeles County judge ordered Doherty to undergo anger management counseling after she allegedly broke a beer bottle on someone's car window outside a West Hollywood bar in August 1996. She pleaded no contest to a vandalism charge, was placed on two years' probation and ordered to pay $5,400 or perform 540 hours of community service.
She currently stars as a witch on "Charmed," which is about three sisters who are witches.
