Movie Review: Meet the Parents
Palms sweating, heart racing, talking non-coherently, these are signs everyone has encountered when meeting their significant other's parents. Ben Stiller in "Meet the Parents" had all of these problems, including stupidity.
As someone who has gone through these emotions in meeting my boyfriend's parents for the first time, I know how Ben feels; you want to make a good first impression. Unfortunately Ben does not succeed. His character Greg Focker (with the cursed un-flattering last name) goes through a series of hilarious incidents from being forced into a lie detector test by overprotective father Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro), to spray-painting a cat's tail.
This movie shows the incredibly frustrating and negative incidents that could happen to any potential "family-inductee."
In one of his most acclaimed comic roles, Robert De Niro plays a dad who is over protective, judgmental, and a true horror to any man who would dare date his daughter. Ben Stiller was hilarious in how he handles every situation that comes upon him. From using a phone to trying on a tux, these two characters' antics really made this movie. Terri Polo (Pam Byrnes) and Blythe Danner (Dina Byrnes) were great supporting characters to De Niro and Stiller, providing a welcome relief so you wouldn't burst your gut from laughing.
I recommend this movie to those of you who have ever gone through the agonizing situation of meeting parents and realizing that you may have said or done something stupid--have heart, no one is as bad as Greg Focker. I give "Meet the Parents" 4 out of 5 stars.
