Movie Review: Coyote Ugly
TeenHollywood.com's review of Coyote Ugly:
This movie definitely wasn't what I was expecting...it actually has a decent plot. As the movie begins, we meet a young woman named Violet (Piper Perabo) who moves to New York City to follow her dream of becoming a songwriter. Of course, Violet runs across a lot of obstacles but finally gets a break through Lil (Maria Bello), the owner of Coyote Ugly, a Manhattan nightclub. This place is a
disgusting hole in the ground but so popular that people are lining up around the block to get in. The reason? The barmaids. Coyote Ugly is a place where the females are behind the bar slinging drinks, NOT shedding their clothes. (Sorry guys, I know this isn't what you were hoping for, but the barmaids' skimpy clothing still leaves little to the imagination.) Wearing these scandalous outfits and mixing drinks for the patrons are Lil the boss, Cammie (Izabella Miko) the heartbreaker, Rachel (Bridget Moynahan) the flame, and Zoe (Tyra Banks) the law. Each girl has her own way of dealing with the customers that should entertain moviegoers, but watch out for Rachel—you definitely don't want to mess with her.
On top of the initial surprise of a good movie unfolding before me, Coyote Ugly didn't even overdo the bar scenes (I was expecting way more barstool line-dancing). This turned out to be an endearing character-building movie encouraging people to fight for their dreams. Very inspiring. Ok, I know what you're thinking, how many times have we seen this story line before? Well, I've lost count too, but in this case it works...one more time.
The only thing missing in this character driven film was insight into Violet's love interest Kevin (Adam Garcia). The audience only gets to know a few tidbits about him, which was frustrating. Why did he move to New York? Where did he learn to dance so well? These are just a few of the questions I would have liked answers to. In getting to know Violet so well I would have liked to know more about the mysterious man who captures her heart.
This is a great date movie. The guys will have girls in skimpy clothing to look at and girls will get a great, romantic story. A true feel-good movie with attitude, Coyote Ugly offers nothing but the truth.
