Movie Review: Nutty Professor II: the Klumps

Nutty Professor II: The Klumps

Eddie Murphy: Sherman Klump/Buddy Love/Mama Klump/Papa Klump/Ernie Klump/Grandma Klump Janet Jackson: Denice Gains Larry Miller: Dean Richmond John Ales: Jason

One of the funniest things about the original "Nutty Professor" was the Klump family: Grandma's sassy mouth, Ernie's rude comments, Mama and Papa's bickering, these characters went over well with audiences. So with "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps", we get just that, the family. This movie focuses on character development. Mama and Papa Klump's problems, Grandma Klump's virile comments, "Nutty Professor II" is a domestic free-for-all that's never short on humor...mostly gross humor.

The synopsis: Sherman has a new love and fiancée, Denise Gains, a university colleague. Together they discover a youth serum that makes people young again (and we all know that would be the greatest thing since acne cream).

Finally everything is going well for Sherman; a budding love life, an odd but loving family, nothing could be better, right? Wrong, let's not forget the obnoxious, rude, and horny Buddy Love. Of course, Buddy is still inside Sherman making him say and do things that the shy and gentle man would not even think of. Sherman is so fed up with his inner "demon" that he decides to extract Buddy from his body not knowing the side effects of doing so. Will Sherman's life ever be the same?

Let me stop here because anything more would ruin it for you, but I will tell you this: Eddie Murphy did an amazing job. The entire Klump family is performed by the actor and half the fun is recognizing Eddie's face through the mounds of makeup he wears for the various roles. The only beef I have is that I often couldn't understand what he was saying because of these makeup effects. Many of the jokes came across muffled. But the jokes I did hear made me laugh. The whole audience laughed, especially the teenagers.

This is definitely your movie if you like rude, disgusting or ridiculous humor. For myself, there's only so much farting a person can stand. By the way, stay for the out-takes, some are quite funny.
